How to Use UK VAT Calculator (Add or Remove 20% & 5% VAT)
- Enter your price into the Selling Price (£) box (and optionally enter your Ex-VAT Unit Cost to see profit margin).
- Choose Remove VAT (if your price already includes VAT) or Add VAT (if your price is Ex-VAT).
- Select 20% (UK Standard Rate), 5% (UK Reduced Rate) or 0% (Zero Rated).
- Read the Net Price (Ex-VAT), VAT amount, Gross (Inc-VAT) total, Margin % and Markup % below.
In the UK, VAT-registered businesses charge 20% Standard Rate VAT on most goods and services, and 5% Reduced Rate VAT on items such as domestic fuel, power and children's car seats. When adding 20% VAT to a net price, you multiply by 1.20. When removing 20% VAT from a VAT-inclusive gross total, you must divide by 1.20 (because the VAT represents 1/6th of the gross figure). WeShoal handles both directions and shows your true Ex-VAT gross profit margin and markup at the same time.
